Hotline Volunteers Needed

Cleveland's Gay Hotline, serving the Community since 1975, is announcing a volunteer recruitment drive beginning this month. In order to provide service seven days a week from 7 to 11 p.m., it is necessary to have a trained staff of 21 volunteers.

Hotline training consists of the following; an interview with one of the Coordinators, completion of three monitored call shifts, completion of two supervised call shifts, and three training classes. Training classes cover the topics of The Gear Foundation, Women's services, Gay night life, the mechanics of sex for men and women, and the mechanics of working the Hotline. Training covers about two months. Volunteers are requested to work for one

year.

The current volunteer drive has a goal of at least 10 new volunteers going active on the Hotline by the end of January 1982. Another 15 volunteers are anticipated to complete training by the end of next June.

The Gay Hotline has been there to help the Community for six years and now we're asking you to help. If you would like to volunteer, or wish further information, please call the Hotline at 621-3380, 7 to 11 p.m., and leave your name for Tom or Win, the Coordinators. PLEASE be sure to leave your name, phone number, and best time and days to get back to you.

Our thanks to you in advance for your response.

Bring slowly to a boil

If you heat the kettle slowly enough, it's been said, frogs die in lazy comfort. They just fall asleep.

Do you feel a little drowsy?

The Bible shouters are stoking up the fires. Especially here in Washington, DC This is the hot core which sends out heat across the country. It's where a change in national law can cook us all together.

Gay Rights National Lobby is at the center, rallying our friends in Congress to help put out the fires. We've had success-expanding' support and co-sponsor-

ship of gay/lesbian civil rights bills, generating thousands of letters to Congress, fighting anti-gay bills such as the "McDonald Resolution" and the "Family Protection Act," and bringing together coalitions with other groups who also feel the danger. In the Advocate, October 16, 1980, you can find an independent evaluation of our work: "On an absurdly low budget, GRNL is producing miracles. Imagine what they could do if we really supported them."

We ask again for your real support. The heat's on right now and we truly need your contributions. Please wake up. Let's not go like frogs.
